History

Phi Theta Kappa
is the international honor society for two-year colleges and academic programs. The society first chapter was established in 1910 at Stephens College, a Missouri two-year women's college, under the name of Kappa Phi Omicron. In 1918, the society became known as Phi Theta Kappa and was organized nationally.

"The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence."

Phi Theta Kappa mission:

1) to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students

2) provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in the society's four hallmarks: leadership, scholarship, service, and fellowship.
